KARACHI: An eight-member investigation team has been formed to probe the killing of a woman and her three children in Karachi’s Surjani Town, media reported.
DIG West Irfan Baloch constituted the team, which will be headed by SSP West Tariq Mastoi. The team includes the SP Investigation West, a DSP and the SHO of Surjani Town.
An initial medical report of the woman and her three children has also been prepared. According to police, multiple severe injuries were found on the heads of the deceased. The police surgeon said the severe blows to their heads caused extensive damage to their brain tissues.
The police surgeon further said the critically injured minor, Ashmira, had died during treatment at Jinnah Hospital.
Samples collected from the bodies have been sent for chemical examination. The report will determine whether the victims were given any intoxicating substance before their deaths, according to the police surgeon.
The deceased woman was identified as Mahwish, while her children were identified as five-year-old Hasnain, six-year-old Kashmirah and an 18-month-old girl.
The 18-month-old girl was initially shifted to hospital in critical condition but later died from her injuries.
Police have also been questioning Mahwish’s husband as part of the investigation. According to the husband, he had gone to drop his employer somewhere and, after returning, found that no one was opening the door.
He said he repeatedly called out to his wife but received no response.
SSP West Tariq Elahi Mastooi reached the crime scene after the incident.
Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar had taken notice of the deaths and sought an immediate and detailed report from SSP West.
The home minister directed police to investigate the incident from all aspects and bring the facts to light. He also ordered officials to collect evidence from the crime scene and determine the reasons behind the killings.
Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar directed police to take immediate action if evidence of any individual’s involvement was found and ordered officials to keep him informed about progress in the investigation. –Agencies
