ISLAMABAD: 2022 Asian Media Workshop kicked off Online in Beijing on Wednesday morning with participants from nearly 10 Asian countries, taking part in the week-long high profile Media activity, based on developing Media platform with shared perception and win-win cooperation.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Makhdoom Babar, President and Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Mail and Chairman of Pakistan China Media Friendship Association, said that the event was yet another magnificent initiative by the hosts, People’s Daily, who after temporary suspension of Annual BRI Media Summits, due to COVID spread, found out yet another way to make Media persons from different countries share a joint podium to exchange their views, share their thoughts and learn more cooperation, especially the Media cooperation.

Makhdoom Babar said that since President Xi has already said that the current century was going to be the century of Asia therefore the Asian Media must also work together with aim to make it the century, belonging to Asian Media.

“We the Media persons and the Media Organizations of the Asian countries are by no means lesser in any form and manifestation than the Western Journalists and their Media Houses. In fact in many areas we are more true, accurate and bold than the Western Journalists and Western Media Organizations. We are more independent and courageous in highlighting the truth and also are equipped with even better tools and Technologies, available to those in the West. It makes it for us to forge an alliance to spread our respective National, Social, Cultural and Economic narratives with synchronized efforts and methodologies”, said Makhdoom Babar.

The Daily Mail’s President, while quoting an example of synchronized Media methodology, said that during the early stages of COVID Pandemic, the whole Western Media made it their responsibility to cover-up China’s extraordinary efforts in combating COVID and instead opted to pick on China and to blame China for COVID Pandemic through fabricated Media reports and Social Media contents. He said that at this stage a team of The Daily Mail’s Investigative Journalists, including one of its Beijing-based Journalist prepared a comprehensive investigative report, highlighting all the ground realities regarding China’s extraordinary efforts to very effectively combat the COVID spread and to save millions and millions of precious lives not only in China but across the World as well. “While this report gained a very productive feedback from The Daily Mail’s audiences across the World yet it became highly effective in highlighting the truth only after it was reproduced by People’s Daily and Beijing Review etc. when they put it on their Web Editions and Social Media Platforms across the World. There this report started yet in millions and millions of positive responses within hours. This happened because of the extensive Media cooperation between Chinese and Pakistani Media under the umbrella of Pakistan China Media Friendship Association, formed back in 2005/2006. This example is from a cooperation merely between Medias of two countries, imagine what could be the depth, strength and effectiveness of a similar cooperation between a huge group of Asia’s Journalists and Media Houses,” said Makhdoom Babar.

The DM Chief said that telling China’s success stories back in our own respective countries was absolutely not merely praising China but in fact it was very essential to bring awareness about how these things could be learn from China for the betterment of our own respective societies. “For instance if I or my Newspaper publishes China’s tremendous efforts of pulling up hundreds of millions of its people from the depth of poverty through CPC’s poverty alleviation drive or CPC’s policies to show zero tolerance for corruption, it does not mean that I or my Newspaper are doing some favour to Chinese government or the CPC but in fact it is mine and my Organization’s professional effort to show my government and my peoples that this is very possible to be replicated in our country as well. To be very honest it also work as a pressure tactic for our own governments to go for adopting Chinese modules of poverty alleviation and anti-corruption. So see, praising China for its good deeds through our articles and news reports is actually bid to generate same for our peoples back home and that is what makes it a win-win situation and that is how it helps us in learning from each others,” concluded Makhdoom Babar.

The Workshop, organized by China’s leading Newspaper People’s Daily will continue till the 7th of this month during which a lot of interactive activities and lectures from high-profile experts will be delivered.
