ISLAMABAD: The crackdown on digital offenses under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) continues in Rawalpindi, with the city’s traffic police filing a case against a citizen over a viral social media post.
According to police, the complaint was lodged at Cantt Police Station by a traffic warden, alleging that the accused spread misleading content online.
Traffic official Imran Sikandar stated that while on duty, he and his colleagues came across a TikTok video posted by the account “Rizwan Singer.” The video reportedly showed a wrongly parked vehicle being towed from outside Hussain Autos on Kashmir Road. “A proper challan ticket had already been issued for the violation, yet the shop owner deliberately recorded and shared the video with false claims to provoke public anger against the police,” Sikandar claimed.
The traffic police maintain that such actions fall under the PECA law, which criminalizes the spread of misinformation and content inciting public resentment.
Authorities have registered a case and launched an investigation. –Agencies
