Tribal areas’ uplift top priority: PM

MOHMAND: Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated on Monday Nahakki Tunnel and Sheikh Zayed road in Mohmand district.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Mahmood Khan and other government functionaries were present on the occasion.
Speaking at a gathering of tribal leaders after the inauguration, Prime Minister Khan said the government will leave no stone unturned for the socio-economic development of tribal areas.
He said tribal areas have lagged behind due to lack of funds and past rulers’ interest. They have no education, jobs and facilities, he added. The government will ensure that tribal areas get all the rights that they deserved but failed to get over past years, he pledged. “We will develop industries so that jobs are created.”
“Our enemy is in contact with elements that didn’t want the merger [of tribal areas with the KP province] to stock anarchy,” the premier warned, adding that they are being provided funds from abroad to create hurdles in the development of tribal areas.
The PM said the government is focusing all its attention on the uplift of society’s weaker segments and backward areas. Praying for the successful outcome of talks between the Afghan government and Taliban, he cautioned that there are some elements that don’t want peace to prevail in the neighbouring country. Peace in Afghanistan will bring prosperity to the tribal districts, he said.
The premier disclosed that the government plans to plant olive trees across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Meanwhile, The medical, surgical and allied services block inaugurated by Prime Minister Imran Khan during his visit to Lady Reading Hospital here on Monday was equipped with latest facilities to facilitate poor patients.
The newly constructed state-of-the art Medical, Surgical and Allied Services block was a five-storey building equipped with ten lifts, modern ICUs and wards for peads, neurology, cardiovascular, heart, orthopedic, chest, gestrology and General surgery. The block has the facility of operation theaters for chronic patients and pre- medical treatment wards besides ultrasound, Eco and diagnostic services.
It was connected with hospital management Information system for quick medical and surgical services to all patients. After inauguration, the hospital has started services around the clock in the block to patients from across the province.
The patients thanked Prime Minister Imran Khan and BOG Chairman Dr Nausherwan Burki for taking personal interest in the mega project and its opening for patients. They termed it another gift of PTI Government for poor patients of Khyber Pakthunkhwa.
Moreover, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday said that the government was introducing health reforms to improve healthcare facilities at the hospitals.
Inaugurating a Surgical and Allied Services Block at Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar today, PM Imran said that reforms have been introduced in all sectors including the health system to ensure transparency and maintain a system of check and balance.
He said MTI Act has been implemented in the health sector to improve healthcare in hospitals and stressed meritocracy in all departments of the government for justice and transparency. The prime minister urged doctors to show empathy with patients as this is basis of humanity.
Lauding the merit system of China, PM Imran said that no country can thrive without a proper system of reward and punishment.
Earlier on September 27, Prime Minister Imran Khan had said that bringing improvement in healthcare system was the government’s top priority. Talking to a delegation of ‘Insaf Doctors Forum’ who called on him in Islamabad, PM Imran had directed the health minister to address the problems of doctors on priority basis. He had urged the ‘Insaf Doctors Forum’ to play their role in improving the health system and preparing health reforms.
