Trump warns Iran over possible mines in Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump has warned Iran of severe military consequences if mines are placed in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil transit routes.

In a message posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump said Washington had no confirmed reports that Iran had deployed naval mines in the waterway, but demanded that any such devices be removed immediately if they existed.

“If Iran has put out any mines in the Hormuz Strait, and we have no reports of them doing so, we want them removed, immediately,” he wrote.

The US president added that if mines had been placed and were not removed “forthwith”, the military consequences for Iran would reach “a level never seen before”.

However, Trump suggested tensions could ease if Tehran chose to remove any devices that might have been deployed, calling such a move “a giant step in the right direction”. –Agencies
