Two burnt alive in Karachi cylinder blast

KARACHI: Two people were burnt alive in an explosion occurred in a shop of LPG cylinders in Federal B Area here on Saturday night.
Rescue 1122 and police rushed to the blast site and started a rescue operation. The dead bodies were shifted to hospital. The shop caught a fire after the cylinder explosion. In the inferno, two persons lost their lives.
A fire erupted in a five-storey factory in Hayatabad Industrial area. Over 40 firefighting vehicles and 150 firefighters had been busy bringing the fire under control for the last 11 hours, according to Rescue 1122.
The intensity of the inferno was reduced but it could not be controlled fully till filing this report. Hundreds of thousands of rupees valuables were gutted in the fire. Rescuers feared the building could collapse anytime due to the fire. The firefighters from Swabi, Mardan, District Khyber and Nowshera were taking part in the operation. Several firefighters suffered critical condition during the firefighting efforts.
Earlier, Two persons were killed and five others injured after roofs of two shops collapsed due to the impact of a gas cylinder blast in the New Chali area near the office of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Tuesday, police and rescue services said. DIG-South Syed Asad Raza said the blast occurred at around 11:30am in a generator shop.
Rescue-1122 official Hassaan Khan told Dawn that the gas cylinder exploded after a fire broke out in the generator shop when an employee was making tea. –Agencies
