KARACHI: A speeding dumper truck struck a motorcycle on Rashid Minhas Road early Sunday, killing siblings and seriously injuring their father.
The family was returning home from Malir after attending a ceremony.
Following the accident, enraged residents assaulted the dumper driver — who was later taken into police custody — and set seven dumper trucks ablaze.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control, while police and Rangers restored order in the area.
Police action
Dumper driver arrested at the scene.
10 suspects detained for arson, more arrests expected via CCTV footage.
Traffic on Rashid Minhas Road diverted due to the incident.
Protests & road closures
The All Pakistan Dumpers Association, blaming the Sindh government for failing to protect their vehicles, staged a sit-in on the Superhighway, blocking both tracks.
Traffic was rerouted to alternate routes. Association president Liaquat Mehsud vowed to continue the protest until all culprits are arrested, claiming nine vehicles were damaged.
Official response
Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori expressed grief, prayed for the injured father’s recovery, and called on residents not to take the law into their own hands.
He urged the government to take strict action against the dumper driver and “rein in the dumper mafia” threatening public safety.
