KARACHI: Law enforcement agencies arrested two suspected facilitators involved in Friday’s terrorist attack on the Chinese consulate in Karachi.
The two suspects were arrested from Karachi and Shahdadpur –around 200 kilometres from the metropolis – in a joint operation by police and other law enforcement agencies, official told media.
At least one of the suspects is believed to have been in contact with the terrorists before they attacked the consulate, the official said.
The suspects are being interrogated at an undisclosed location. Their identities have not been revealed yet.
Security forces on Friday foiled an attack on the Chinese consulate located in Karachi’s upscale Clifton, killing all three terrorists and seizing at least nine hand grenades, Kalashnikov bullets, magazines and explosives.
Two policemen, ASI Ashraf Dawood and Constable Amir, were martyred in the operation to foil the attack. Two civilians, a father and a son who had come from Quetta for visas, were also killed, police said after reviewing initial information. A security guard was critically injured.
Police registered a case against the terrorist attack, nominating the three attackers, who were shot dead by the forces, in the FIR.
According to official, one of the attackers was identified as Razzaq, a resident of Kharan, while the others were identified as Azal Khan Mari alias Sangat Dada, and Raees Baloch.
The attack was orchestrated by the outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army commander Aslam alias ‘Achchu’, official informed media. He is currently under treatment at Max Hospital in New Delhi.
Earlier today, a forensic report on the incident revealed presence of fingerprints of more than three people on the car purportedly used by the attackers. The car, a white 2006 model, was registered by a resident of Nazimabad area of Karachi. It had been sold six years ago, and CPLC records showed that the car had not been stolen, it emerged yesterday.
