FAISALABAD: The University of Agriculture marked the World Forest Day in order to raise awareness of the importance of forests among the general public .
In this regard, events were arranged by the Department of Forestry and Range Management and Office of Treasurer separately.
Dean Faculty of Agriculture Dr. Aman Ullah Malik praised the steps of the government of Clean and Green Pakistan in order to mitigate climate change impact. He said that increasing temperatures, floods, and irregular rain patterns were vital signs of climate change. He stressed upon the need to increase the green area.
Chief Hall Warden Prof Dr Jafar Jaskani said that the university due to its lush green fields was listed in the green universities of the globe. He said that when someone enters the campus, he feels pleasant and two to three centigrade less temperature as compared to rest of the city.
Treasurer Umar Saeed Qadri said that the forests are crucial for the well-being of humanity. Its role in local and national economies has become even more vital. He urged the people to actively take part in Green and Clean Pakistan campaign for a better tomorrow.
Chairman Department of Forestry Dr Fakhar Nawaz said that massive plantation at the national level will prove a millstone to fight the climate changes, health, and others related issues. He said that the University was making all out efforts in the Green and Clean Pakistan
Divisional Forest Officer Wajeeh Uddin said that we have to create public momentum to mitigate greenhouse emissions, increase tree cover, and reduce pollution. He said that the government initiative of Green and Clean Pakistan is a hallmark step that will bring tangible results.
Dr Irfan Ahmad said that in the university forestry area, they have planted up to 70 species of different species Dr Muhammad Asif, Dr Abdul Rasheed, Dr Haroon Rasheed, Dr Shahid Hafeez, progressive farmer Muhammad Khan and other notables attended.
