UN peacekeeper’s death, skirmishes underscore tenuous ceasefire in Lebanon, says EU’s Kallas

The death of a UN peacekeeper in Lebanon and continued skirmishes underscore the tenuous nature of the agreed-upon ceasefire deal between the Lebanese and Israeli governments, EU’s top diplomat Kaja Kallas said on Thursday.

“The best way to reduce the threat posed by Hezbollah is to strengthen the Lebanese state, empower its institutions, and restore its monopoly on the use of force,” Kallas wrote in a post on social media platform X, adding that the EU has agreed to provide an additional €100 million to the Lebanese military. –Agencies
