Darfur (Sudan): United Nations Secretary General through the UNAMID Ag. Police Commissioner, Dr. Sultan Azam Temuri decorated 180 Formed Police Unit (FPU) and 29 Individual Police Officers (IPOs) of Nepal Police at a colorful Medal Parade ceremony held at Tawilla Team Site.
Delivering a speech on behalf of UN Secretary General, the Ag. UNAMID Police Commissioner Dr. Sultan AzamTemuri said that he felt honored to be called upon on the occasion of Nepal Police Medal decoration ceremony, where he decorated the gallant men and women of Nepalese Police Contingent with medals for distinguished services rendered to the people of Darfur.
The UNAMID Police Chief took the opportunity to thank the Nepal Police on the tremendous contribution rendered towards the full implementation of UNAMID mandate in Darfur. “The peace keeping mission is thankful for the tremendous contribution of the Nepalese police for keeping the UNAMID mandate in Darfur”, he stressed.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the Secretary General is well aware of the diverse contributions since the deployment of Nepalese Police into the mission.As these gallant men and women in uniform are honored with medals for distinguished service for UNAMID.
“It is worthy to take remarkable contribution of Nepal towards peace support operations as a member State and as a Police contributing country to the United Nations”, he said.
He added that Nepal Police have always performed every mandated task successfully for UNAMID. “I am indeed proud of the outstanding performance of Nepal Police Contingent in Darfur”, asserted Ag. PC Temuri.
Furthermore, Dr. Sultan AzamTemuri said, since their performance has remained exceptionally well during their tour of duty, he wishes to implore them to continue trekking on the same path to leave a legacy for themselves and
their country. “I hope the recruits will continue to perform outstanding tasks and contribute to contribute to the best for peace and stability, the way they have shown during their tour of duty here”, he said.In his concluding remarks, Dr. Temuri said it is his pleasure on behalf of the UN secretary General to award them with UN peacekeeping Medals in recognition of their outstanding performance in Darfur, that they may wish to know that they are part of joint endeavor to bring peace and stability back in Darfur and Sudan in general.
“It is my honour to present awards of UN peacekeeping Medals on behalf of UN Secretary General to the members of Peace mission for their extraordinary performance on bringing peace and stability back, in Darfur, and in the whole Sudan”, he said.Other Speakers included UNAMID Ag. Deputy Police Commissioner/Police Chief of Operation Mr. YemaneAsnesa, who delivered the UNAMID Medal Citation, Nepal FPU Commander, Senior Superintendent Madam M. Chandharypresented the welcome notes and narrated a part of the history of UN Peacekeeping and Nepal, the other speaker was Nepal FPU Deputy Contingent Commander who read the message of Nepal’s Inspector General of Police. -PR
