HONG KONG: The HKSAR Thursday expressed firm opposition to and solemnly refuted U.S.’ so-called “Hong Kong Autonomy Act” report concocted by the U.S. government. The report openly slandered the Law of the People’s Republic of China on Safeguarding National Security in the HKSAR, arbitrarily sanctioned Chinese personnel and interfered in Hong Kong affairs which are China’s internal affairs, a spokesperson of the office said. The spokesperson said that the national security law in Hong Kong has filled the loophole in Hong Kong’s protection of national security and ended the rampancy of “Hong Kong independence” forces and reversed the chaos caused by “black violence”. Hong Kong has ushered in a major turning point from chaos to governance, and a new page has been turned on the practice of “one country, two systems”, the spokesperson added. It is proved that the law targets an extremely small minority of anti-China activists who endanger national security, and protects the vast majority of law-abiding residents and foreigners in Hong Kong, allowing the rights and freedoms enjoyed by Hong Kong people in accordance with the law to be effectively protected, the spokesperson said. – Agencies
