– urges non-aligned countries to support Palestinian cause

TEHRAN: US President Donald Trump’s recent threat of a possible military attack on Iran is only a “bluff,” Iranian Defense Minister Amir Hatami said on Thursday.
The threat seems more like a “bluff to cover their chagrin” for their failed policies, Hatami was quoted as saying by the Press. On Monday, Trump said that if Iran does something, they will be hit as they have never been hit before. The Iranian minister warned the U.S. against making the mistake of taking measures against Iran.
“If they make a mistake, they will receive a response that will make them more ashamed than the previous measures which brought about humiliation to them,” Hatami said.
The Iranian armed forces stand fully ready to protect the nation and the country’s borders, and will give “a crushing response” to any threats or excessive demands, he added.
Meanwhile, Iran has urged member states of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to support the Palestinian cause, Tasnim news agency reported on Thursday.
“It is of great importance that the NAM countries maintain and strengthen their united front and do not allow the Zionist regime (of Israel) and its enablers to succeed in their aim of relegating the Palestinian question to the margin,” Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad JavadZarif was quoted as saying. Zarif made the remarks at a meeting of the NAM Ministerial Committee on Palestine held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, on Wednesday, the report said.
“The extremist and unilateral policy pursued by the United States coupled with its contempt for international law has had a devastating impact on the Palestinian people,” Zarif said.
“The (U.S. President Donald) Trump administration is aiding and abetting the aggressive Israeli regime in its expansionist behavior which seeks to undermine the status of the Palestinian issue,” the top Iranian diplomat added.
While, Iran’s economy minister recently cancelled his trip to Washington to attend the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG), official IRNA news agency reported Thursday.
The decision by Iranian Economy Minister Farhad Dejpasand came as a response to the U.S. denial of visas to his accompanying delegation, IRNA said. Dejpasand sent a letter to WBG’s President David Malpass to express Iran’s protest against the United States “placing unnecessary obstacles in the way of the Iranian delegation’s trip.”
