Uzbekistan starts issuing ID cards

Tashkent: Uzbekistan started issuing national ID-cards to replace internal biometric passports, the press service of the Uzbek Interior Ministry said on Monday.
ID-cards will be issued until Dec. 31, 2022 primarily to persons over the age of 16, as well as in case of loss of passports, the expiration of validity, or if citizens desired to change name, surname or nationality. The exchange of domestic biometric passports for ID-cards will be mandatory from Jan. 1, 2023. The cards will be issued for 10 years and will be valid only on the territory of Uzbekistan.
From January 1, 2021, traveling abroad will be allowed only with foreign biometric passports. –Agencies
