TASHKENT: Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has instructed the government to ease COVID-19 lockdown measures step-by-step from mid-August, the country’s presidential press service said Wednesday.
The Central Asian nation, which introduced a second lockdown in July to curb a resurgence of the virus, will from Aug. 15 restore domestic air and rail traffic and reopen hotels, cafes and restaurants, as well as sports centers and museums.
Members of the public will be allowed to hold family gatherings of up to 30 people, according to a report from the service.
From Aug. 17, Uzbekistan will re-allow interregional traffic and public transport in cities and towns. From Aug. 20, it will open all markets, shopping malls, fitness clubs and swimming pools, the report said.
So far, Uzbekistan has registered 32,465 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 210 deaths and 25,106 recoveries.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan has updated the procedures for entering the country by cancelling the mandatory 14-day quarantine or cutting it down to seven days based on the “color” of inbound flights, the country’s special commission to combat coronavirus said on Thursday.
Diplomats and their family members, investors, representatives and specialists of foreign companies, students, and those seeking medical treatment can enter or leave Uzbekistan, the commission said.
Visitors with green flights, which include those from Japan, South Korea, China, Malaysia, Thailand, Georgia, Hungary and Latvia, will not be placed under any quarantine upon arrival, it said.
And passengers with yellow flights from the EU countries (except Spain and Britain) as well as Azerbaijan, will be put under home quarantine.
The Central Asian nation has marked earlier inbound flights with red, yellow and green according to the COVID-19 epidemic situation in the country of departure and opened the border for people of certain categories.
So far, the country has confirmed 32,654 COVID-19 cases, with 211 deaths and 25,659 recoveries.
