Sydney: Former Australian spin legend Shane Warne has named his all-time greatest Australian Test team he played with and also revealed two greatest batsmen he bowled in his career.
The 50-year-old took to Instagram live to name the side and picked all the players with whom he had played during his illustrious 14-year career.
He nominated the first World Cup winning captain for the Kangaroos, Alan Border as the skipper of his side. The leading wicket-taker for Australia in Test cricket named Matthew Hayden and Michael Slater as his openers.
One of the fans asked why he didn’t pick current explosive opening batsman David Warner in his XI, on which he said, “I am only picking players that I played with that is why he is not going to be a part of the side, he is one of the greatest Australian openers.”
Warne named Ricky Ponting, Steve Waugh, Mark Waugh, and Allan Border as his middle-order. Warne named left-handed Adam Gilchrist as the wicket-keeper of his side. Warne opted to go for Glenn Mcgrath, Jason Gillespie, Bruce Reid, and Tim May as his bowlers in the XI. He named Merve Hughes as his twelfth man.
Warne’s greatest Australian Test XI: Matthew Hayden, Michael Slater, Ricky Ponting, Mark Waugh, Allan Border (c), Steve Waugh, Adam Gilchrist, Tim May, Jason Gillespie, Glenn Mcgrath, and Bruce Reid.
On the other hand, he picked Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar and West Indies’ former skipper, Brian Lara as the greatest batsmen that played during his era.
“There were these two guys, then there was daylight and after that, the rest of the batsmen came that I bowled,” he said.
“If I have to choose any batsman to bat at any conditions, I will pick Tendulkar over Lara but if I have to chase 400 runs on the last day, I would definitely pick Lara,” he added.
The legendary spin wizard announced that he will come live on Instagram regularly and do some interesting revelations of his playing days.
