Karachi: West Indies’ men’s and women’s cricket team’s decision to tour England this year has rewarded Windies Cricket the Spirit of Cricket Award from the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).
Both teams toured England during unprecedented times of COVID-19. Jason Holder-led men’s side arrived in England in June for a three-test series played in a biosecure environment.
It was the first time, international cricket resumed after the novel coronavirus outbreak stopped cricket activities across the globe.
Windies’ women featured in a T20I series against England in September after India and South Africa were unable to tour because of the pandemic.
“In a year when cricket has brought us much solace, it is entirely fitting that Cricket West Indies and their men’s and women’s teams should be recognised for the courage of their decision to tour England, an act which truly embodies the spirit of cricket,” MCC President Kumar Sangakkara said.
Meanwhile, the MCC also praised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Cricket Australia (CA) and Cricket Ireland (CI) for sending their teams to play in England. – Agencies
