ISLAMABAD: Former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi on Thursday warned that the country would face a historical crisis if free and fair general elections were not held.
“Let the elections take place and lay the foundation for good thinking as it will ensure a good future for the poor,” Elahi, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) president, said while talking to the media in Islamabad.
To a query about a level-playing field in the polls, Elahi — who is behind bars — said what about the “levels” when there’s “no field”. To another query, he said he backs Barrister Gohar Khan as PTI’s chairman. The PTI president said he would contest elections from three national constituencies and as many provincial constituencies.
