ISLAMABAD: White Ribbon commemorated Human Rights Day to ensure the protection and realization of women’s rights in Pakistan. Women’s rights are the fundamental human rights that every human being is entitled to. Unfortunately, In Pakistan men and women do not enjoy the equal rights which perpetuate the violence against women.
Violence against women and girls has always been a challenge for Pakistani Society but the COVID-19 crisis aggravated it by deepening poverty, rising inequalities, structural discrimination and other gaps in human rights protection. School closures and economic strains left women and girls poorer, out of school and out of jobs, and more vulnerable to exploitation, abuse, forced marriage and harassment.
This year’s Human Rights Day theme is “Recover Better – Stand Up for Human Rights†focuses on the need to build back better by ensuring Human Rights. While talking to the media, the CEO White Ribbon Mr Omer Aftab said that we cannot recover better until we stand up for the human rights of women in Pakistan. We need to tackle all kinds of inequalities and discrimination against women and girls through creating equal opportunities and protecting their social, cultural and economic rights, added Omer Aftab
White Ribbon is engaging men to showcase practical and inspirational examples that can contribute to recover better and build back a world that is better, more resilient, just, and sustainable.
