BRUSSLES: The World Health Organization (WHO) has said Covid cases were on the rise again in Europe after two months of decline and warned a new wave would come “unless we remain disciplined.”
“Last week, the number of cases rose by 10%, driven by increased mixing, travel, gatherings and easing of social restrictions,” WHO’s regional director for Europe Hans Kluge told a press conference.
“There will be a new wave in the WHO European Region unless we remain disciplined,” Kluge added.
Kluge cautioned this reversal came in the context of rising cases of the Delta variant, first spotted in India, which the regional director said “overtakes Alpha very quickly,” referring to the variant that first emerged in Britain.
