BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday sent a congratulatory letter to the founding conference of the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The center was officially inaugurated on Monday. To mark this important occasion, the International Forum on Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (FBAS) will be held in Beijing from Monday to Wednesday.
Xi announced setting up the research center during his address at the 75th UN General Assembly to support the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
At present, the world is suffering from the huge impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, science and technology innovation and big data applications will help the international community to overcome difficulties and implement the 2030 Agenda, Xi noted.
Xi stressed that he hoped all parties would make full use of the platform of the research center and this forum to work together on the plan of using big data to support sustainable development, strengthen international cooperation and make joint efforts to contribute to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. The theme of the forum is “Big data for implementing the Sustainable Development Goals,” with a special focus on building a digital silk road and global partnership for Sustainable Development Goals, innovation and demonstration of big data applications for sustainable development, cutting-edge technologies and information platforms for assessing Sustainable Development Goals, Digital Earth and sustainable development, and Big Earth Data to support Sustainable Development Goals.
