BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping’s 2024 New Year address has offered a glimpse into China’s commitment to a global vision and the country’s strive to make the world a better place for all, which is of great importance, according to analysts.
Xi summarized 2023 as a year when the country marched forward with solid and robust steps and urged efforts to steadfastly advance Chinese modernization and deliver a better life for the people in 2024, as he delivered the annual New Year address in his office in central Beijing on Sunday, the eve of the New Year.
While pursuing its own development, China has also embraced the world and fulfilled its responsibility as a major country, said Xi.
He also mentioned the China-Central Asia Summit and the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, China’s two major diplomatic events at home last year at which Xi hosted leaders from across the world.
Xi said that he also paid visits to a number of countries, attended international conferences, and met many friends, both old and new.
“I shared China’s vision and enhanced common understandings with them,” he said. “No matter how the global landscape may evolve, peace and development remain the underlying trend, and only cooperation for mutual benefit can deliver.” Gerardo Torres Zelaya, vice foreign minister of Honduras, said he was impressed by the Chinese president’s emphasis of the importance of peace.
“I believe that one of the common values shared by Latin America, the Caribbean and China is that we attach great importance to safeguarding regional peace and resolving conflicts through dialogue,” he told CGTN.
He added Honduras also believes in the principles of respecting sovereignty and promoting integration.
In the New Year address, Xi also pointed to conflicts that are still raging in some parts of the world, and urged efforts for peace.
“We Chinese are keenly aware of what peace means,” he said, while pledging that China will work closely with the international community for the common good of humanity, build a community with a shared future for mankind, and make the world a better place for all.
“The first thing that deserves our attention is that the spirit of the New Year message is peaceful and constructive,” said Hayk Mamijanyan, a member of the national assembly of Armenia.
China’s primary pursuit is peace and development, which is crucial, Mamijanyan told CGTN. “Considering China’s importance in international politics, I think this will have an impact on the global situation.” Xi also said in the New Year address that China will deepen reform and opening up across the board, further enhance people’s confidence in development, and promote vibrant development of the economy.
Zafar Uddin Mahmood, former special assistant to the prime minister of Pakistan, hailed China’s constant efforts to open up to the outside world. –The Daily Mail-CGTN news exchange item
