BEIJING: President Xi Jinping stressed the peaceful development of cross-Straits ties and urged high vigilance against the Taiwan independence during a CPPCC panel discussion in Beijing on March 4.
“The separatist forces of ‘Taiwan independence’ and their activities threat the national sovereignty and the territorial integrity,” said Xi, adding “They are the biggest hindrance for the peaceful development of the cross-Straits ties, biggest threat of the cross-stability and therefore should be resolutely opposed. ”
The panel included political advisers from the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League and the All China Confederation of Taiwan Compatriots.
Xi has met with all walks of life from Taiwan and made several remarks on cross-Straits relations since he was elected as the General Secretary of the CPC in 2012. All of these remarks reflect his resolute stance on promoting the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations and peaceful reunification of China.
Confident in the future
Xi expressed full confidence in his unwavering promotion of the peaceful development of cross-Straits ties, ushering in of new possibilities and joining hands with Taiwanese compatriots to embrace the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation during a meeting with Lien Chan, honorary chairman of the Kuomintang, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on February 25, 2013.
Patience can overcome hurdles in cross-Straits ties
During the meeting, Xi also pointed out the problems that have hindered the development of cross-strait ties in the past and warned of those to come, all of which will require time, patience and cooperation to resolve.
Taiwanese compatriots welcome with open arms
“We will try to do our best, as long as what we do contributes to the well-being of our Taiwan compatriots, to the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations and to the overall interest of the Chinese nation,” Xi said at another meeting with Lien on February 18, 2014.
Great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation
Xi called for the mainland and Taiwan to join hands and promote cross-Straits relations. Realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation requires efforts from people on both sides of the Straits, Xi said during a meeting with Lien on February 25, 2013.
Xi also expressed his hopes that Taiwan would develop along with the mainland and that compatriots from both sides cooperate in realizing the “Chinese dream.” (People’s Daily)
