‘Xi’s remarks encouraged world’

BEIJING: Scholars around the world said Chinese President Xi Jinping’s speech on Sunday has shared China’s experience in fighting COVID-19 and encouraged the world to work closely together.
In his speech, Xi stressed unremitting efforts in the prevention and control of the novel coronavirus disease and coordination in advancing economic and social development.
China’s unprecedented public health responses to the COVID-19 outbreak have yielded notable results in blocking human-to-human transmission of the virus, preventing or at least delaying hundreds of thousands of cases, said a joint expert team consisting of experts from China and the World Health Organization (WHO).

The assessment was given at a press conference on Monday in Beijing after the 25-member team conducted a nine-day field study trip in China’s Beijing, Guangdong, Sichuan and Hubei.
China has also played a critical role in protecting the international community, buying precious time for countries to adopt active prevention and control measures and providing them with valuable experience, the team said.
JannieRossouw, head of School of Economic and Business Sciences at South Africa’s University of the Witwatersrand, told media that he thinks the Chinese government has done well to curb the infections, and other countries could “put on similar efforts.”
“The (Chinese) government has given others an example on how to deal and to take control of a health crisis and to put required resources to contain further spreading of the virus,” Rossouw said.–Agencies
