BEIJING: China’s Y-20 military transport aircraft highlights the improvement of the strategic force projection capability of the Air Force with its outstanding performance at the ongoing 2022 Changchun Airshow in northeast China’s Jilin Province.
The swift changes of state at low altitudes always put high requirements on large-sized aircraft in terms of air frame structures, controllability and maneuverability.
The Y-20 aircraft’s water droplet mobility and steep turns made at a speed of 310 kilometers per hour at a height of 150 meters, exhibits its good controllability.
With outstanding performances in cruise range, carrying capacity and speed, the Y-20 is an important tool for long-range strategic delivery and the strategic transformation of the Chinese Air Force with both offensive and defensive capabilities. Y-20 aircraft is mainly used in strategic and tactical military transportation, airborne operations, equipment and materials airdropping and non-war military operations. “It usually takes longer time for a common transport aircraft to make the movement. Although the Y-20 is large in size, it is more flexible in making the movement with less time. For instance, a Y-20 aircraft can make a steeper turn than other transport aircraft, which can shorten the time needed,” said Jiao Xuehao, pilot of the Y-20 aircraft. The Y-20 aircraft has participated in both the parade celebrating the 90th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and the National Day parade celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, as well as taking part in joint exercises and military drills abroad.
