Karachi: Former captain Younis Khan has opened up for the first time after resigning from the batting coach’s position on June 22.
The 43-year-old Younis was a special guest in ARY News’ special show ‘Har Lamha Purjosh’ last night. Former wicketkeeper-batsman Rashid Latif revealed that Younis was playing football while his resignation news broke out.
Younis disclosed that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wanted him to take the batting coach’s role soon after his retirement from international cricket in 2017.
“In 2017, when I was coming back from Lords’ [attending the private event], I was offered to accept this role by then chairman of the cricket board,” Younis said.
“I was thinking to take this role for past three years after people from different walks of life suggested me to do this but now after six to seven months, I am here,” he added.
“I went to support PCB but if no one wants my support, I am here again,” Younis told host Waseem Badami.
Remember, Younis was appointed as batting coach last year in November on a two-year contract until the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. He served as interim batting coach in England last year too before permanent appointment.
