Manchester: Younis Khan is satisfied with batsmen performance in the Test series against England and he is looking forward to working with this bunch in the future.
Khan’s short-term period as national team’s batting coach will end after the third T20I tomorrow. Meanwhile, he indicated towards continuing his job in the future while talking to the reporters via teleconference.
“I enjoyed working with batters during this tour and many things I learnt from them and tried to deliver my experience to them. If any opportunity comes to me to continue my job, I will love to do it,” said Younis who was appointed just for England tour comprised of three Tests and as many T20Is.
Former Test cricketer said his prime target was to make good friendships with players to better understand them. “From guiding Mohammad Hafeez on his golf swing to mending Yasir Shah’s hairstyle, I have tried to come as much closer to the players as I can to undestand them properly. I have worked with these players like they are my children and this is what I had learned in past two years,” he said.
Talking about losing Test series, Khan said few session cost them first Test upon which they looked afterwards and tried to overcome weaknesses.
“We played really well in first Test, unfortunately, last few sessions slipped from our hands and we lost that match. I hope players have learned from this exprience,” he maintained.
Khan backed Azhar as captain and expressed confident in him as a batter after he gained his form back with a knock of 142*. “See, for me he has done well in the series. He was under pressure due to his performance but I think that one inning gave him immense confidence,” he said.
“Similar case is of Asad who it really difficult to gain his form back. But I am pretty sure, a single good inning will put him back on track,” he continued.
Adding on, Khan praised Mohammad Rizwan who was named man-of-the-Test-Series for scoring 161 runs and taking 6 catches behind the stumps. “I was very happy for him [Rizwan]. He proved himself and you know whenever a youngster performs, it gives you a special feeling,” he said.
Looking forward to last T20I of the tour, Khan is confident to end the series on a winning note. “I hope we win the last match and finish this tour on a high note. I am confident that our players will bounce back,” he conclued.
