Youth Employment Policy emerges as key reform in economic survey

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD:The approval of the National Youth Employment Policy is a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to address youth unemployment and strengthen workforce participation across the country.
The economic survey 2025-26 describes the policy as a comprehensive national framework designed to connect young people with education, skills development and employment opportunities through a coordinated institutional approach.
According to the survey, the policy adopts a whole of government model, bringing together federal and provincial stakeholders to improve alignment between labour market demands and youth aspirations.
It identifies different youth segments and links them with relevant career pathways to facilitate smoother transitions into productive employment.
The survey notes that a National Coordination Committee has been established to ensure integrated implementation of the policy and strengthen collaboration among institutions responsible for youth development, skills training and employment generation.
By linking education, skills development and job opportunities under a unified framework, the policy aims to improve labour market outcomes and support evidence-based decision-making.
The Economic Survey describes the initiative as an important component of the government’s broader youth empowerment agenda and a foundation for promoting sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
