-ATC extends physical remand of five accused

ISLAMABAD: The judicial inquiry report into the killing of 22-year-old man Osama Satti has revealed that the Islamabad youngster was not involved in any criminal activity.
The commission found that Osama was shot from all directions by ATS personnel and he was not involved in any robbery or other criminal activity.
News of Osama’s death was deliberately hidden from his family for four hours and officers tried to turn the incident into a dacoity case,” the report revealed, adding that “Rescue 1122 vehicle reaching the incident site was provided the incorrect location details by the police control room.”
As per the judicial inquiry report, 22 shots were fired at the vehicle of Satti by more than four ATS personnel and cartridges were sent for forensics after 72 hours.

Osama Satti was killed by Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) personnel after they claimed that the boy refused to stop his vehicle at a check-point following a robbery report on the wireless. The post mortem report later found that the boy was shot multiple times from the front.
The family of the victim has since demanded of the authorities to conduct a judicial inquiry into the matter owing to their distrust of the police.
Mean while, An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday extended physical remand of the five arrested policemen in the Osama Satti murder case. The five accused were presented before the court as Judge Raja Jawad Abbas resumed hearing. The investigation officer requested the judge to extend physical remand of the accused by five days.
Their statement under section 364 of CrPC will be recorded, due to which their custody is required. Accepting his plea, the court granted a five-day extension in the accused’s physical remand. During the hearing, the judge asked the IO about progress thus far made in investigation, to which the latter replied that the accused have confessed to the crime. He quoted them as saying that an innocent citizen lost his life because of their fault.
The accused include Muddasir, Shakeel, Mohammad Mustafa, Saeed Ahmed and Iftikhar Ahmed. On Jan 2, the five Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel were taken into custody for indiscriminately gunning down 22-year-old Osama in the Sector G-10 area on Srignagar Highway within the jurisdiction of Ramna police station in the federal capital.
Minister for Interior Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, on the other hand, made a phone call to father of Osama Satti and discussed inquiry report into murder of his son. The minister said the report would be forwarded to the next channels if the heirs of the deceased were satisfied with it.
He said that Prime Minister and Cabinet have decided to satisfy the father of Osama Satti and to investigate into the matter after his trust in the process. The minister said that inquiry may be conducted by Judge of High Court if asked by father of Osama Satti and letter would be written to Ministry of Law and Justice. The minister said that satisfaction of Osama’s father and his family was crucial to further proceed into the case as the government was committed to ensure fair and transparent investigation.
