ISLAMABAD: Following the special directives of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, the Islamabad Police ensured top-tier security arrangements and maintained a coordinated traffic system for all processions and gatherings held throughout the city on the 9th and 10th of Muharram.
On the 9th of Muharram, over 5,800 officers and personnel were deployed, and on the 10th of Muharram, more than 4,000 officers and personnel were deployed on security duty. Additionally, over 500 officers from Islamabad Traffic Police played a crucial role in maintaining smooth traffic flow.
IGP Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi personally reviewed all security arrangements in the field along with senior officers and directed effective measures for duty enforcement. Multi-layered security was provided to the processions. Sniper commandos were deployed on rooftops along the procession routes, and a ban was imposed on flying private drones in procession areas. Special units from CTD, police, and Rangers were deployed at the front and rear of the processions.
Female police officers and women volunteers were assigned for checking women participants. Special pedestrian entry routes were designated for the processions, where heavy police deployment ensured effective security checks. Special scanners were installed at entry points, and no individual was allowed entry without thorough inspection. IGP Islamabad instructed all officers to remain present during the processions and ensure foolproof security arrangements. The procession routes were continuously monitored through the Safe City control room and mobile control room. The Bomb Disposal Squad cleared procession routes and Imambargahs using robots and other modern equipment.
At the same time, traffic flow was efficiently maintained during the gatherings and processions to avoid inconvenience for the public. Due to the effective arrangements by the traffic police, a smooth traffic system remained in place in the federal capital. An alternative traffic plan was also implemented, and parking of vehicles near the procession routes was strictly prohibited. IGP Islamabad commended the officers and personnel of Islamabad Police for their outstanding security performance. He also extended special thanks to the Islamabad Administration, Pakistan Army, and Punjab Rangers. He emphasized that protecting the lives and property of citizens and maintaining peace and order in the federal capital are among Islamabad Police’s top priorities. No element will be allowed to disrupt public peace under any circumstances.
