Türkiye Republic Day celebrated at NUML

ISLAMABAD: The National University of Modern Languages (NUML) here on Thursday organized a special event to commemorate the Republic Day of Turkiye, celebrating the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Turkiye.
The event also marked the first visit of Buket Kop, Ambassador of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, to NUML.
The distinguished delegation included Dr. Mehmet Toyran, Educational Counselor at the Turkish Embassy Islamabad; Colonel Fatih Yildirmaz, Counselor of Interior Affairs and Dr. Tahir Shah, Assistant to the Educational Counselor.
They were warmly received by Rector NUML, Maj Gen (R) Shahid Mahmood Kayani.
Also present DG NUML, Brig Muhammad Rafiq Khan, and Dean Faculty of Languages, Dr. Jameel Asghar Jami.
During the meeting both sides engaged in a productive discussion on fostering stronger educational and cultural cooperation among Turkiye, Northern Cyprus, and Pakistan.
Ambassador Buket Kop lauded NUML’s academic and administrative achievements and proposed launching a teachers’ exchange program to promote mutual learning and research collaboration.
The Rector extended his gratitude for Turkiye’s continued support in advancing higher education and intercultural linkages in Pakistan.
He reaffirmed NUML’s commitment to serving as a bridge of linguistic and cultural exchange, contributing to global understanding through education.
Ambassador appreciated the shared cultural, historical, and religious ties among the three nations and emphasized the importance of transforming these bonds into tangible academic partnerships.
The discussion also included potential joint research projects, student exchanges, and collaborative seminars aimed at strengthening institutional cooperation.
Later, the visiting dignitaries attended the Republic Day of Turkiye celebration organized by NUML’s Turkish Department.
The event featured poetry recitations and performances by students reflecting Turkish history and culture.
In his welcome address, Dr. Jameel Asghar Jami, Dean Faculty of Languages, highlighted Turkiye’s remarkable journey of reform and resilience, noting that it was the first Muslim-majority nation to emerge as a republic through internal transformation.
He extended best wishes for Turkiye’s continued progress and prosperity.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of souvenirs to the distinguished guests, symbolizing the strong and enduring friendship among Turkiye, Northern Cyprus, and Pakistan.
