GB independent day marked at FUUAST

ISLAMABAD: Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Independence Day was celebrated at the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) Islamabad, where students highlighted the region’s rich cultural diversity with their performance.
The event, held on Monday, was attended by students, young singer, faculty members, heads of departments, Vice Chancellor Dr. Zabita Khan Shinwari, Former Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Hafeez-ur-Rehman, and other guests. Speakers recalled the historic struggle of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan who attained independence on November 1, 1947.
Addressing the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Dr Zabita Khan Shinwari said that university is not only centers of knowledge, science, and technology but also platforms for preserving and promoting cultural heritage.
He stated that remembering national heroes and the history of independence strengthens the identity of nations.
“It is encouraging to see GB students proudly representing the legacy of their elders in Islamabad with dignity and style,” he remarked.
Dr Shinwari further praised the region, saying Skardu is among the most beautiful places in the world, and the people of Baltistan are known for their intelligence. “Gilgit-Baltistan being a part of Pakistan is indeed a blessing,” he added.
Former Chief Minister Hafeez-ur-Rehman noted that the people of Gilgit-Baltistan celebrate both Pakistan’s Independence Day and their own day of liberation with great enthusiasm, reflecting their patriotic spirit.
The celebration featured Balti and Shina ghazals, with students performing traditional dances. Guests wore traditional Gilgit caps, adding cultural color to the event. Shields were presented to distinguished guests and active student participants.The audience also applauded the poetic recitation of young poet Shahzad Mehdi, adding further vibrancy to the occasion. –Agencies
