Islamabad Police achieves historic 37% drop in crime rate

———- Apprehends over 23,000 criminals in 2025

ISLAMABAD: Operations division arrested 23,683 criminals and recovered stolen valuables worth over 2 billion rupees, with crime rates dropping by 37% and serious crimes by 69% compared to last year. Moreover, high-profile cases were traced in less than 24 hours. Four brave officers were martyred in the line of duty, while 33 officers were honored as ‘Ghazi’ for their courage.

 
According to the details, IGP Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, implemented immediate and effective measures to improve the performance of the Operations Division in 2025. These measures were aimed at providing better facilities to the public, ensuring the protection of citizens’ lives and property, maintaining law and order, and enforcing the rule of law.
These actions included robust strategies against criminal elements and a crackdown on crime, which resulted in a 37% reduction in overall crime and a 69% decrease in heinous crimes compared to 2024. As a result, Islamabad was recognized by a global journal as one of the safest cities in the world, a reflection of the hard work and dedication of Islamabad Police officers.

In 2025, Islamabad Police arrested 23,683 criminals and recovered stolen goods worth over 02 billion rupees. The police successfully apprehended 1,308 members of 578 dangerous criminal gangs involved in robberies, thefts, and street crimes, seizing 375 vehicles and 851 motorcycles from their possession. A crackdown on land mafia led to the arrest of 161 individuals involved in 157 cases of illegal occupation.
More than 200 criminals involved in aerial firing were also arrested. Under the “Nasha ab Nahi,” movement, the Islamabad Police conducted an extensive operation against drug dealers, arresting 1,801 individuals and recovering 317 kg of hashish, 545 kg of heroin, 161 kg of ice, thousands of narcotic pills, and 8,427 bottles of liquor. To safeguard students’ futures and protect them from drug addiction, Islamabad Police arrested 29 individuals involved in supplying drugs to educational institutions and seized a large quantity of narcotics.
Islamabad Police also launched the special “Weapon-Free Islamabad Campaign” to eliminate illegal weapons, weapon display, and large-scale illegal arms dealers. This led to the arrest of 2,308 criminals and the seizure of 304 rifles, 92 shotguns, more than 2,200 pistols, 294 daggers, and 37,491 rounds of ammunition. Furthermore, a crackdown on professional beggars resulted in the arrest of 3,973 individuals.
In 2025, police conducted 465 search operations. Moreover, as a result of the effective and modern investigative system, 187 individuals involved in murder cases were arrested, while 14 criminals received death sentences and 14 others were sentenced to life imprisonment by the courts.
Islamabad Police also carried out extensive operations against proclaimed offenders, judicial absconders, and habitual criminals, resulting in the arrest of over 4,000 criminals. In more than 20 high-profile cases, including the murder of social media influencer Sana Yousaf, the killing of Faheem Sardar, the abduction of a 3-year-old child from Centaurus Mall, and the murder of social worker Ishtiaq Ahmed Abbasi, the accused were apprehended in less than 24 hours.
Islamabad Police also organized 1,270 open courts to address public issues, benefiting more than 100,000 citizens. The complaints cell took immediate action on over 8,500 citizen complaints, ensuring decisions were made transparently and on merit.
Additionally, 04 brave officers of Islamabad Police sacrificed their lives in the line of duty to protect citizens, while 33 other officers were honored as “Ghazi” for their bravery. In the year 2025, Islamabad Police ensured foolproof security for 2,337 protests, religious gatherings, and foreign delegations. In 2025, to enhance community policing and increase police effectiveness, various initiatives were launched, including the addition of 206 motorcycles to the patrol unit, the establishment of Police Response Units, and the introduction of city-watch squads. In response to the growing population, model police stations were also established under the Special Initiatives Police Stations program, and SIPS protocols were implemented to better serve citizens.
Special checkpoints were also set up, while modern technology such as body-worn cameras and e-police posts were introduced for more efficient patrolling. To address public grievances quickly, alternate dispute resolution centers were reactivated to ensure immediate assistance for citizens.
