China ready to work for more stability, improvement in ties with US: Wang Yi

BEIJING: China is willing to work with the United States to faithfully implement the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state, so that China-US relations can truly stabilize and improve to better benefit both countries and the whole world, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks when meeting with a visiting delegation of US senators led by Steve Daines, in Beijing. Wang noted that this is the first bipartisan delegation of US senators to visit China since President Donald Trump took office, giving the trip important symbolic significance.
He expressed hope that the delegation could experience firsthand China’s new development momentum, build new bridges of communication, explore new areas of cooperation, and inject fresh impetus into the stable, sound and sustainable development of China-US relations.
Wang pointed out that China-US relations concern the well-being of the peoples of both countries and bear on the stability of the world.
China’s policy toward the US remains consistent and clear: the two sides should take mutual respect as the foundation, peaceful coexistence as the principle, and win-win cooperation as the goal, so as to find the right way for two major countries to get along and jointly contribute to world peace and stability, he added.
The top Chinese diplomat also recalled that the two heads of state have held multiple phone calls and an in-person meeting over the past year, steering bilateral ties at critical moments and setting the direction for the relationship.
China stands ready to work with the US side to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and ensure that bilateral ties move forward on a more stable and constructive track, Wang said. –The Daily Mail-CGTN news exchange item
