UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper warned that the world risks “sleepwalking into a global food crisis”, saying tens of millions could go hungry if Iran’s actions disrupt an international shipping lane, including the Strait of Hormuz, Al Jazeera reported.
“And so that is why we need to act together in our response,” he said.
The World Food Programme estimates that almost 45 million more people could fall into acute food insecurity if the US-Israel conflict with Iran continues.
The Foreign Ministry is hosting a major aid summit in London and setting out the United Kingdom’s new approach to development as a food security crisis looms for countries already on the edge. –Agencies
