UN urges respect for Lebanon ceasefire, says it must not be ignored

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ spokesman Stephane Dujarric urged all parties to respect the “cessation of hostilities agreement” in Lebanon, Al Jazeera reported on Tuesday.

During a briefing at UN headquarters in New York City, Dujarric said there was a “cessation of hostilities agreement” in Lebanon when asked about a ceasefire amid Israeli attacks and Hezbollah return fire.

“I think how it’s being respected or disrespected is a matter of fact. It’s a situation of a lesser fire. We will continue to call for the agreement to actually be respected, and not be ignored.”

Dujarric said UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon recorded 206 firing incidents from Israeli positions as of 4pm local time, along with seven trajectories attributed to Lebanese non-state actors presumed to be Hezbollah, and also detected five air strikes in their area of operations. –Agencies
