LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif met Secretary of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Committee & Political Commissar of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (XPCC), He Zhongyou for a detailed discussion on the promotion of economic, development and cooperation ties between the provinces of Punjab and Xinjiang. They also deliberated on how to enhance cooperation in medical, agricultural, economic, and business matters; besides strengthening people-to-people exchange programs. A proposal for online technical support for Pakistani students was also reviewed in the meeting; and expressed their commitment to enhance cooperation between Punjab and Xinjiang in the fields of agriculture, industry, technology, and infrastructure.
Chief Minister Punjab offered cooperation in water-efficient drip irrigation and high-quality seeds for better crop yields in water-scarce areas; and expressed a desire to benefit from China’s experience in overcoming water shortages in drought-stricken and arid regions through modern scientific methods. She appreciated He Zhongyou’s initiative for the 6th International Media Tour in Urumqi; and thanked him for the warm welcome. She praised his visionary leadership of China’s Xinjiang Province; and extended him congratulations on the 150th anniversary of Communist Party of China. She also congratulated him on the completion of 75 years of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that Punjab holds the distinguished honour of being Pakistan’s food basket; and added that poverty and deprivation are being alleviated through effective measures and good governance. She expressed interest in launching pilot projects in various areas of the province in collaboration with China for the conservation of water reservoirs; and noted that renewable energy sectors are among their priorities. She highlighted that technical education is being promoted in Punjab’s educational institutions. –PR
