ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held separate telephone conversations with his Saudi and Turkish counterparts to discuss follow-up on the Makkah Defence Alliance.
Dar spoke with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, according to statements from the Foreign Office.
The defence agreement, signed on August 7, brought together the Muslim nations concerned by the Middle East war that began on February 28, after the US and Israel jointly bombed Iran and targeted its top leadership.
The three sides — Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye — held the inaugural meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee established under the pact in Istanbul, Turkiye, on August 31.
During his conversation with Prince Faisal, the two foreign ministers exchanged views on regional and international developments, including matters of mutual interest at multilateral fora.
They also discussed follow-up on the understandings reached at the inaugural meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee of the Makkah Defence Alliance, held in Istanbul.
The two ministers agreed to remain in close contact.
In his conversation with Fidan, Dar thanked his Turkish counterpart for hosting the inaugural meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement in Istanbul.
The two ministers followed up on the understandings reached during the meeting and discussed ways to further advance cooperation under the Makkah Defence Alliance.
They also exchanged views on regional and international developments and discussed matters of mutual interest and opportunities to further strengthen cooperation at multilateral fora.
Dar and Fidan also agreed to remain in close contact. –Agencies
