ISLAMABAD: Deputy Inspector General of police (DIG) Islamabad Ali Waseem chaired an important meeting to review crime prevention measures and overall police performance. The meeting was attended by SSP Operations Qazi Ali Raza, SSP Investigation Salman Zafar, SSP Security/Administration, zonal SPs, SDPOs and SHOs.
During the meeting, the DIG Islamabad reviewed the performance of all officers individually, with particular focus on crime prevention, investigation of cases, arrest of offenders and public facilitation. Show-cause notices were issued to SHOs and investigation officers of police stations found to have unsatisfactory performance, while all SHOs were given 15 days to improve their performance.
DIG Islamabad Ali Waseem directed officers to conduct effective and targeted operations against active criminal gangs and utilize all available resources to prevent crime. He also directed that previously recorded offenders, proclaimed offenders and habitual offenders be arrested and effective policing measures be strengthened to protect the lives and property of citizens.
He further directed that recoveries in property-related cases must be ensured and investigating officers should remain in regular contact with complainants and keep them informed about the progress of their cases. “The responsibility of the police is not to conceal crime but to control and prevent it,” he said.
DIG Islamabad made it clear that Islamabad Police has a zero-tolerance policy against corruption. Strict departmental and legal action will be taken without discrimination where corruption is established.
He added that officers demonstrating outstanding performance would be encouraged, while negligence and poor performance would lead to departmental action.
DIG Islamabad Ali Waseem also directed all officers to hold regular open courts to ensure timely redressal of citizens’ complaints and resolution of their issues. He stressed that public complaints should be heard attentively and addressed promptly in accordance with the law.
