WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump said on Friday that Washington may launch another military operation against Iran, while signalling that Cuba could become a focus of US action once the conflict with Tehran is dealt with. ‘We’ll take care of Cuba on our way back from Iran … then we’re going to send Marco Rubio in to finish up the deal,’ Trump told a rally in Florida.
Trump did not provide further details about what action the United States might take against Cuba or what he meant by finishing up a deal.
Earlier on Friday, Trump said the United States could end its war with Iran quickly, but questioned whether Washington should seek a swift conclusion or allow the conflict to wind down gradually. ‘We could end it very quickly,’ he told reporters before departing for Florida. ‘Do we want to finish it off or just want to let it wither?’
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said on Friday that Washington would ‘take care of Cuba’ after dealing with Iran, adding that Secretary of State Marco Rubio would be sent to ‘finish up the deal’.

On the other hand, Tehran has drawn up detailed plans to target undersea communications cables in the Gulf if the United States and Israel attack Iran again, two senior Iranian security officials told media. Their comments followed warnings by Iranian officials that undersea cables in the region could become targets in any renewed conflict if diplomacy with Washington collapses.
The two Iranian security officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, gave few details and did not say how or where exactly Tehran would carry out such attacks. But one of them said Iran would aim to prevent repairs after any attacks to prolong disruptions to communications, including internet connections.
“If Iran is attacked, there will be no more red lines … from undersea cables to military bases, including covert ones,” one of the officials said.
The official warned Washington not to “play with fire”, and said Iran had full access to the undersea cables and could easily destroy them.
