Pakistan rejects Afghan Taliban claim of ceasefire violation

Pakistan has dismissed as “ridiculous” claims by an Afghan Taliban spokesperson alleging a violation of the temporary suspension of Operation Ghazab lil-Haq, according to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

“Pakistan has not violated any ceasefire, adding that the Afghan authorities’ claims are baseless and based on falsehoods,” the ministry said in a statement.

It said the purpose of such propaganda was to justify acts of terrorism and suggested it could also originate from dissenting elements within the Taliban regime.

“Pakistan has made clear that the temporary pause in operations will end, after which any terrorist activity or cross-border attacks will be met with a strong response,” it further stated.

The ministry noted that the decision to temporarily suspend the operation was made in view of Eid al-Fitr and at the request of friendly Islamic countries.

Earlier, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar in a statement said that operations were halted at the request of Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Qatar, adding that the suspension would remain in place until the early hours of March 24. –Agencies
