RAWALPINDI: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Murree has launched the installation of modern, high-strength drain covers as part of efforts to improve public safety, urban infrastructure and drainage management in the hill station.
According to WASA spokesperson, the initiative aims to make the drainage system more effective, secure and sustainable while addressing longstanding issues associated with conventional drain covers.
He said traditional covers installed at various locations had often been stolen, displaced or damaged, creating inconvenience for residents and tourists and increasing the risk of accidents due to exposed drains and manholes.
To address these concerns, WASA Murree has introduced specially designed drain covers manufactured using modern technology.
He said the new covers have been engineered to remain firmly fixed to the road structure, making theft or displacement extremely difficult.
“This modern system will not only enhance public safety but will also improve the efficiency of the drainage network”. The spokesperson said advanced materials have been used in the manufacturing process, while colour and texture have been incorporated into the raw material, reducing the need for frequent painting and maintenance.
The covers have also been designed to withstand heavy rainfall, snowfall, fog and other adverse weather conditions common in Murree. Residents and business community representatives have welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that it will help reduce drainage-related problems while enhancing public safety and the quality of civic amenities. –Agencies
