ISLAMABAD: The District Health Office (DHO) Islamabad has intensified dengue surveillance and vector control activities across the federal capital to identify and eliminate mosquito breeding sites and prevent the spread of dengue.
According to official sources, surveillance and vector control teams are conducting field activities in different areas, including inspection of water storage sites, identification and elimination of mosquito larvae and prompt action on complaints received from citizens. The teams are also monitoring compliance with dengue prevention standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure timely measures against potential dengue risks.
The DHO urged citizens to keep their homes and surroundings clean, prevent accumulation of stagnant water and cooperate with field teams during surveillance and vector control activities.
Meanwhile, Two new confirmed dengue cases were registered in Rawalpindi district over October 5 and 6, bringing total confirmed infections to 42, while 10 confirmed patients remain admitted in hospital isolation wards.
According to latest dengue data released by the District Health Authority on Tuesday, total hospital screenings rose by 67 reaching from 5,094 to 5,161, while suspected cases increased by 63 to reach 4,762.
Total hospital admissions decreased slightly from 13 to 12 patients, though the number of admitted confirmed dengue cases remained unchanged at 10. Health authorities confirmed that no dengue-related deaths have occurred in the district during 2026. The 12 infections recorded during October were identified across high-risk areas including Chaklala Cantonment, Wah Cantt, Adyala, Fouji Colony, Pindora, Dhama Syedan, Qayumabad, Chah Sultan, Dhamyal, and CTR- II.
Vector surveillance operations continued to uncover localized breeding, with 1,400 field teams detecting 1,982 additional larva positive sites over the two-day period. High-risk zones led by severe larval concentrations were identified in Chaklala Cantonment, Takhat Pari and Rawalpindi Cantonment.
Cumulative punitive actions remained unchanged at 2,798 FIRs, 686 sealed premises, 2,331 challans and Rs.3.15 million in fines.
