Pakistan Cultural Week opens in China to celebrate 75 years of diplomatic ties

CHENGDU: The 2026 Pakistan Cultural Week, themed “75 Years of Iron Brotherhood: Mutual Learning of Civilizations Toward the Future”, opened on June 5 in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, offering local residents a chance to experience Pakistan’s history, culture and cuisine. The event provides a platform for people-to-people exchanges between Sichuan and Pakistan, showcasing Pakistani culture to local communities and facilitating meaningful connections between entrepreneurs from both countries. Through art, cuisine, film and photography, the event aims to foster mutual understanding and bring the Chinese and Pakistani people closer together.

The opening ceremony was attended by more than 150 guests, including government officials, diplomats, cultural figures, media representatives and students. The event is organized by the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Chengdu, the Sichuan Provincial People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and the Sichuan Provincial Women’s Federation, and co-organized by the Sichuan Women and Children Center. The ceremony featured an array of performances. Chinese artists presented choral singing and traditional dances while Pakistani performers presented medleys of classic songs, Rubab recitals, dances and fashion shows. The highlight of the evening came when Chinese and Pakistani youth took the stage together for a joint musical performance. Running until June 10, the Cultural Week will host a series of thematic activities. A Pakistan Cultural and Tourism Photo Exhibition, featuring nearly 60 works, showcases Pakistan’s natural landscapes, local customs and traditional heritage. In addition, a Pakistan Film Show will screen two films: Ba Tie Girl – the first China-Pakistan co-production – and The Donkey King, offering Chinese audiences a window into Pakistani cinema. –Agencies
