ISLAMABAD: The District & Sessions Court of Islamabad on Tuesday sentenced a police officer to two years in prison after finding him guilty in a fraud case involving an overseas Pakistani. The case was related to an alleged fraud of Rs 3.4 million reported by a Pakistani citizen living in the United Kingdom. Civil Judge Zunaira Zafar announced the verdict after the prosecution established the charges against the accused. The court awarded a two-year jail term to police official Muntazir Mehdi.
According to the complainant’s counsel, Abrar Cheema, the accused received money from UK-based Pakistani citizen Shafiq Mustafa. The lawyer told the court that the payments were made over a period of time on the pretext of managing the complainant’s property and handling legal matters in Pakistan.
The prosecution argued that the accused continued to collect funds from the overseas Pakistani while claiming that the money was needed for the maintenance of the house and for legal affairs. The court reviewed the evidence and concluded that the allegations had been proven. The case had been registered at Shalimar Police Station against police employee Muntazir Mehdi. Following legal proceedings and examination of the record, the court delivered its judgment and handed down the sentence.
