Major crime reduction, security improvement in 2025

ISLAMABAD: Under the dynamic leadership of IGP Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, the Islamabad Police presented its overall performance report for the year 2025 in the Justice Committee meeting. The report highlights a marked improvement in the law and order situation in the federal capital, a clear reduction in crime rates, and the provision of modern facilities to citizens.
As per the report, 76% construction work of the Federal Prison Islamabad has been completed, and the prison will be made fully operational during the year 2026. The first Superintendent of Prisons for Federal Prison Islamabad has also been appointed. Due to the effective strategy adopted by Islamabad Police, a significant decline in violent crimes has been recorded in the federal capital. Comprehensive security measures have been ensured in residential and commercial areas during both day and night, allowing business and routine life to continue uninterrupted across the city.
According to the Numbeo public safety index, Islamabad has been declared one of the safest cities in the world with a score of 68.6%, ranking higher than global cities such as London, New York, and Paris. From 1st January 2024 to 31st December 2025, an overall 23 percent reduction in crime was recorded, while crime-related calls received on “Pucar-15” decreased by 32 percent.
During 2025, Islamabad Police arrested 1,552 court absconders, 2,062 proclaimed offenders, and 990 habitual criminals. Effective operations were carried out using modern digital surveillance, AI-based software, analysis of CDRs, Hotel Eye, Travel Eye, tenant registration systems, and special search operations.
In the same period, 1,395 accused were arrested in 1,594 cases, and stolen property worth Rs. 536 million was recovered. For illegal possession of weapons, 2,375 accused were arrested, and 2,336 cases were registered, leading to the recovery of a large quantity of weapons and ammunition.
In anti-narcotics operations, 1,889 accused were arrested, and substantial quantities of hashish, heroin, ice, opium, and liquor were recovered. Similarly, effective actions were taken against kite flying, begging, and other social crimes.
In 2025, Islamabad Police successfully solved multiple high-profile cases related to terrorism, murder, kidnapping, robbery, and other heinous crimes, arrested the involved accused, and submitted challans before the relevant courts.
To ensure law and order, effective security arrangements were provided for 351 VVIP movements, security of national and international dignitaries and delegations, parliamentary sessions, protests, national and international events, and thousands of other gatherings.
Modern checkpoints equipped with automated systems were established across the city, including number plate recognition and facial recognition cameras. Police officers were equipped with body-worn cameras and modern wireless communication systems, resulting in improved security as well as smoother traffic flow.
During the year 2025, over 739,000 citizens benefited from services provided at 13 modern Khidmat Markaz of Islamabad Police, while the Online Women Police Station remained operational 24/7 to ensure protection and support for women.
With the help of Safe City Islamabad’s advanced AI-based systems, CCTV cameras, drones, and data analysis tools, up to a 70 percent reduction in crime at hotspots was recorded. The Justice Committee appreciated the overall performance of Islamabad Police, and this performance clearly reflects Islamabad Police’s commitment to citizen safety, modern policing, and the rule of law.
